Gut Health Habit Score

No test turns your digestion or gut bacteria into an "age". This page does not estimate one. It counts eating and activity habits linked with digestive health. The NHS recommends adults aim for 30 g of fibre a day.

Before you start

Method : Gut Health Habit Score — a custom points score written by this site. Each answer adds or subtracts the points shown in the Methodology table below.

Validation : Unvalidated. The points have never been tested against any laboratory measurement or health outcome, and the result is not an age.

Review : not reviewed by a qualified clinician. Educational only — not a diagnosis or a medical test.

Blood in your poo, a lasting change in bowel habits, unexplained weight loss or tummy pain should be checked by a doctor (NHS bowel cancer symptoms).

Methodology & assumptions

Your score is the sum of the points below. The weights are our own judgement. The old version added years for probiotics, bloating, food sensitivities and antibiotics and gave a "gut age". Symptoms like bloating or bowel changes need a doctor, not a score, so they moved to the note beside the questions.

Worked examples

Rarely eats fibre, ultra-processed food at most meals, under 10 plant foods a week, often thirsty, little activity: 2 + 2 + 1 + 1 + 1 = +7 points.

Fibre with most meals, rarely ultra-processed, 20+ plants, rarely thirsty, active: 0 points.

Understanding your result

This counts eating and activity habits you reported. It is not a digestive or microbiome measurement and not an age. Health-agency guidance linked below is general and based on populations, not on this score.
