Hormone Symptom Checklist

Hormone levels can only be measured with blood tests, and many symptoms have several possible causes. This page does not estimate a "hormonal age". It counts symptoms that the NHS links with common hormone changes, including menopause and thyroid problems, so you can decide whether to talk to a doctor.

Before you start

Method : Hormone Symptom Checklist — a custom points score written by this site. Each answer adds or subtracts the points shown in the Methodology table below.

Validation : Unvalidated. The points have never been tested against any laboratory measurement or health outcome, and the result is not an age.

Review : not reviewed by a qualified clinician. Educational only — not a diagnosis or a medical test.

Bleeding after the menopause (12 months or more without a period) should always be checked by a GP (NHS).

Methodology & assumptions

Your score is the sum of the points below. The weights are our own judgement. The old version added made-up years per answer, scored men and women differently, and added years for fertility history, hormone therapy and thyroid diagnoses. Those were removed with the age output; diagnosed conditions need a doctor, not a score.

Tired most days, mood swings most days, unexplained weight change, frequent hot flushes, lower sex drive, irregular periods: 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 1 + 1 = +10 points.

None of these symptoms: 0 points.

Understanding your result

This counts symptoms you reported. It is not a hormone measurement and not an age; the same symptoms can have non-hormonal causes. Health-agency guidance linked below is general and based on populations, not on this score.
