Hydration Habit Score

There is no such thing as a "hydration age". This page does not estimate one. It compares your drinking habits and simple signs, such as urine colour, with NHS guidance of about 6 to 8 cups or glasses of fluid a day.

Before you start

Method : Hydration Habit Score — a custom points score written by this site. Each answer adds or subtracts the points shown in the Methodology table below.

Validation : Unvalidated. The points have never been tested against any laboratory measurement or health outcome, and the result is not an age.

Review : not reviewed by a qualified clinician. Educational only — not a diagnosis or a medical test.

Confusion, fainting, not passing urine for 8 hours or more, or a fast heartbeat with dehydration needs urgent medical help (NHS).

Your answers stay in this browser tab; nothing is sent or stored.

NHS guide: 6 to 8 cups or glasses a day, more in heat or exercise.

Methodology & assumptions

Your score is the sum of the points below. The weights are our own judgement. The old version added made-up years for skin elasticity, lip dryness, electrolytes and climate and gave a "hydration age". Those aren't reliable measures of hydration, so they were removed with the age output.

Worked examples

Fewer than 3 glasses, dark urine, often thirsty, heat without extra drinks, daily sugary drinks: 2 + 2 + 2 + 1 + 1 = +8 points.

6–8 glasses, pale urine, rarely thirsty, drinks more in heat, rarely sugary drinks: 0 points.

Understanding your result

This counts habits and signs you reported. It is not a hydration measurement and not an age. Fluid needs vary with body size, heat, exercise and health conditions. Health-agency guidance linked below is general and based on populations, not on this score.
