Financial Habits Checklist

There's no standard "financial age". This page doesn't estimate one. It checks six money basics that consumer-finance guides commonly recommend and shows which are in place. It doesn't ask for income, savings amounts or net worth.

Before you start

Method : Custom checklist with published points (this site's own).

Checked : Unvalidated; not a credit score or financial assessment. The result is not an age.

Review : not reviewed by a licensed financial adviser. Educational only — not financial advice.

Methodology & assumptions

Each answer gives the points below; the total is out of 12. Higher means more basics are in place. The weights are this site's own and equal for each area.

Worked examples

3+ months saved, no high-interest debt, budgets, saves regularly, insured, has a will: 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 = 12 of 12.

No savings, behind on a card, rough idea of spending, not saving for retirement, partly insured, no will: 0 + 0 + 1 + 0 + 1 + 0 = 2 of 12.

Understanding your result

A low total shows where to start, not how "old" your finances are. Situations differ — a student or retiree may reasonably answer "not yet" to some items.
